The Bridges (street art)
Old and new reached out to one another in the street art festival ‘The Bridges’. Flashback to summer 2020. Bruges artist Wietse and his buddies are bursting to overrun the city with murals. The eight of them come from Bruges, Ghent and Leuven, and are internationally renowned. They paint façades in the centre and the boroughs, often just a stone's throw away from the City Ramparts. Birds, fish and other creatures appear surprisingly often. ‘The Bridges’ is about the symbolism of building bridges. Between the past and future, inner city and suburbs, nature and culture.
After a successful first edition, the street art festival ‘The Bridges’ is heading for the coast and will provide Zeebrugge, Lissewege, Dudzele and Zwankendamme with quality street art by promising young artists. The marriage of culture and climate also forms a key part of ‘The (sea) Bridges’. With the sea as a central element, this time the focus is on burning issues that are still high on the agenda, such as rising sea levels, the reception of refugees and the preservation of natural areas. A fascinating journey, in which art and social themes go hand in hand.
